On April 28, 2011, the democracy champion from Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi, became a new patron of the World’s Children’s Prize. H.M. Queen Silvia presented a symbol for this, the World’s Children’s Prize crystal globe, in a ceremony for Aung San Suu Kyi.

At World’s Children’s Press Conferences around the world, children revealed who 3,2 million children chose in a Global Vote to be their child rights hero in 2011: Murhabazi Namegabe from D. R. Congo. The Honorary Award 2011 went to Cecilia Flores-Oebanda from the Philippines and Monira Rahman from Bangladesh.
