Every year, the nominees for the World’s Children’s Prize for the rights of the child are invited to Sweden to take part in a spectacular and moving award ceremony conducted by children from around the world, assisted by HM Queen Silvia of Sweden.
In 2011, three great heroes were honored: Murhabazi Namegabe from D. R. Congo. The Honorary Award goes to Cecilia Flores-Oebanda from the Philippines and Monira Rahman from Bangladesh.Watch a video from the ceremony above:
The children conducting the ceremony are experts on the rights of the child through their own life experiences, including as child soldiers, slaves and homeless.
In 2010 a very special award ceremony was held, honouring Decade Child Rights Heroes Graça Machel and Nelson Mandela. Mrs Graça Machel, one of the world leaders of The Elders (www.theelders.org) came to Sweden to accept the award.
