Stop violence against girls

25 NOVEMBER is The International Day for the Elimination of violence against Women. ON this day we remember Jeanette, 15 years old from DR Congo, who spoke to us during a break in her training to become a World’s Children’s Prize Child Rights Ambassador. She said:
"I am a girl mother and my son is two years old. I gave birth to him at the age of 13 following an unwanted pregnancy by rape. When my father died our paternal uncles chased my mom and me out of the house simply because I was becoming a girl mother. I asked myself the question whether a daughter and mother are not entitled to live on the land of her father just because she is becoming a mother? There was no one who could take care of me.
During her training, Jeanett learned new things about girls’ rights and said to us:
"I am able to understand now that I am human and I have to fight to talk to other girls my age."
Through our project Rights and Democracy for One million girls, we aim to contribute to this goal. The project is implemented in partnership with ECPAT Sweden and local NGOs around the world. It is funded in full by the Swedish PostCode Lottery (Svenska PostkodLotteriet.
