Fighting FGM

“Female genital mutilation, or FGM, is the worst form of violation against girls. We put together a play in our WCP Child Rights Club that shows how bad FGM is for girls and their health. We performed the play for our parents.”

Pierre was in fifth grade when he and his friends got The Globe at his school. “That was when we discovered children’s rights and realised that several of our rights were being violated.”

“Those of us who are WCP Child Rights Ambassadors have a group that responds to cries for help from children. Children can come and talk to us about their experiences of rights violations. Then we discuss the matter with the village leaders. Our parents attitudes have also begun to change. We won’t stop fighting until every kind of violation of children’s rights finally comes to an end.”

Pierre, 14, WCP Child Rights Ambassador in Senegal.
