To help pupils understand that if one goal is achieved, it paves the way for one or more other goals to be achieved.
Participants need to be aware of basic facts about the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Expain that achieving one Global Goal can clear the path to reaching another. Give an example: If more people get access
to clean water and sanitation (Objective 6), better conditions are created
for good health (Goal 3). Healthier children do better in school and get a good education (Goal 4), which provides greater chance of eventually finding a good job (Goal 8) and not be poor (Goal 1) and hungry (goal 2).
- Ask pupils to reflect silently: Is there any goal we can remove without affecting the opportunity to achieve another? (Probably not!)
- Work in pairs or small groups who are given goals as a starting point. Together, they discuss and sketch out their own chains of how one reaching one goal can lead to others, drawing mind maps with pen and paper or digitally.
- Pupils present their chains to each other and reflect together. What have they learned through this exercise?
