The WCP Program in easy steps

The World’s Children’s Prize Program is one of the world’s largest annual education initiative, empowering children to become changemakers. They stand up for the rights of the child, democracy, and sustainable development. Since the year 2000, 46 million children have taken part in the annual program.

Here we will guide you through the step of the WCP Program, and how you can use its lessons, activities and materials to educate and empower young people about: children in your community about:
  • The equal value of every individual.
  • The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • How democracy works.
  • How to fight against injustice, poverty, racism and oppression.
  • The UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

If you are not already a Global Friend school, start by registering as one. It is free of charge!

WCP Program 2023

Use the WCP program to work with rights and democracy in school. The next round runs until October. Last date to cote is October 1st!

Steps in the Program

You and your school decide when and for how long you want to work with the WCP program, as long as everyone has sufficient time and opportunity to learn and be empowered during the program cycle. This is how you do it, step by step (click on the steps to learn more):

The rights of the child

Study the rights of the child as they are stated in the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child. Are these rights respected where you live, in your country, and in the world? Do girls and boys have equal rights and opportunities? Is there anything you’d like to change? The Global Goals for Sustainable Development

Study the Global Goals and how the world can achieve them by 2030 to reduce extreme poverty, fight injustice and stop climate change. Also, learn how the goals are connected to the Rights of the Child. | More about the Global Goals.

The Child Rights Heroes

Meet the Child Rights Heroes who are candidates for the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child. Their stories provide inspiration and learnings on child rights and the Global Goals in real life. | Learn more about the Child Rights Heroes.

Democracy

Study the history of democracy and fundamental democratic principles, and how election campaigns work. Later you will organize your own Democratic election and Global Vote Day with ballot boxes, and election officiators where children vote for their favourite from among the Child Rights Heroes. | Learn more about Democracy.

Changemaker Day

Based on the knowledge gained in the WCP Program, children around the globe present their demands for change, and end by walking or running 3 km for a better local community, country, and world. | Learn more

Activity: Climate Action & No Litter Day

Children around the world celebrate No Litter Day and demonstrate that they belong to the No Litter Generation by collecting litter and sharing knowledge about the environment and the need to stop climate change. | Learn more
